Well I'm single.
But I never let a certain day tell me I should be sweet to my girl. I don't have to be told. ;]
Brownies and lingerie (consider it wrapping paper for the real gift)?
Do people actually care for valentine's day? it seems so stupid..
^^Well I kinda agree with you Robot. Asides from it being just another 'money making' racket, why resign 'one' day to showing someone you love them?
If you can't show a partner and 'every' day that you love them and we have to put one day aside from 365 days to show we love them, then perhaps you shouldn't be with that person.
Commercialized bullshit.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
I disagree. It's easy to show appreciation for someone when you have only been involved in relatively short relationships, say under 5 years. It's a natural expression of new love to do this, and requires almost no effort. When you are involved in longer relationships, it is easy to begin to take your significant other for granted, especially when you start having families and other priorities begin to emerge. Having one day a year set aside to REMIND you to be appreciative isn't such a bad idea... it's like New Year's resolutions. They are made every year as a way to remind yourself to be continually trying to improve yourself. (shrug)
I don't think most men care about the gifts. I think they just like to feel adored and appreciated.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
Those getting rich from it, care enough to promote the gift giving though and people jump to the tune of the media and rush out and buy gifts, etc....
Why not then just have a 'Show someone you love and appreciate them' day....and without having feel forced into spending money.
If they were not making money from it.....it wouldn't exist.
Commercialised bullshit ....lols
Same as Christmas and Easter and other days that they conjure up, and to try and keep the money going around and around and that can all be celebrated and without going to extremes of spending loadsa money.
They'd just love to turn these days into a second, third and fourth Christmas a year.
Most guys probably forget about Valentines Day.....until their girlfriends remind them

I think people are free to celebrate this day any way they choose. (Same for Christmas and the other holidays.) You can't blame businesses for wanting to make money. Consumers should take some responsibility for their own spending habits, and quit trying to blame anyone else for their lack of restraint.

Well i'm not one of those ppl who are obsessed with valentines day, i just wanna do something cute that he will appreciate. I'm great with christmas and birthday gifts but not so much with valentine's day. Lingerie is a must...but idk what else? chocolate covered strawberries? lol And since we've been arguing lately, i just want to clear the tension a bit and let him know that i'm still here 100% even when we aren't getting along Great.

Can you cook? Maybe you can make him a nice dinner.... most guys like to eat. If you feel compelled to buy something more gift-like, how about tickets to a sporting event? College sports tickets are cheaper than pro... Or, maybe tickets to a comedy club or concert, or something. Things to DO seem to go over better with guys than buying them another piece of clothing they don't care about.

yeah i can cook pretty well except, everytime i cook he ends up doing all the work and not letting me do anything. lol and He likes sports but he thinks watching a whole game is boring...

I have no grievance against the actual day and what it signifies....hell I've bought cards myself (not gifts). I just don't like the fact that it's been commercialised and businesses will grab at it and use the day as YET another opportunity to make money. But of course, that is business and people don't have to spend and even if the media tries to force it on us to spend.
I'm unsure what it's like in the USA....but over in my part of the UK there were Valentines cards and gifts in the shops, 2 WEEKS after Christmas, no word of a lie. The day after Valentines Day, we will see Easter eggs...lol Hell they will soon have the xmas lights up again...
