tough situation. Am I alone in this?

My grandmother passed away 2 days ago, we were close. The funeral is wednesday. Children and grandchildren have been writing texts and poems, but nobody wants to read it in the church because they all know it's going to be very emotional and a lot of people will be watching.

So my dad has asked a friend of the family (not even a very close friend) to read what we have prepared.
I find it very unpersonal and embarrasing.

I offered to take the word but I wasn't allowed to. My dad says it's too emotional and I will cry so nobody understands. To be honest I think he finds it a disgrace if one of us cries in public

SO WHAT? If I let somebody else do it I think I'll regret this for the rest of my life

Just get up there, because I know if you move fast enough, no one will stop you from saying a few words.....step up and take command. Just do it!

My condolences. My grandma acted as my mother in my earlier years until she passed away.

I agree with smackie; if you step up and take command, nobody is going to make a fool of themselves trying to stop you. Just be prepared if you have something to say... it's normal to cry over the death of a loved one, but try to moderate yourself if you're trying to read something.

I'd get up there and read your speech and rather than have some nobody your grandmother hardly knew, read it.

I dislike the intrusion of people the family may not know well at funerals. I think they should remain a personal and a family thing only.

    Sorry for your loss btw.
