Tonight I am going to take 2 yoga classes, back to back.

Restorative Yoga - This class will guide you through a series of restorative poses, which are deeply relaxing poses designed to reduce stress, tension, and fatigue. Props are used to support and comfort your body, open your chest, and gently stretch your hips, back, and neck as you rest in the poses. You will emerge from this class restored, renewed, and ready to face the new week.

Yin Yoga - Come experience a deeper level of body mind and spirit in this concentrated and and languishing practice. Holding the poses longer allows us to work deeply into areas that we don't access everyday giving us new insights and understanding to our habitual holdings and postural habits. Dive deep and clear the body of tension and resistance and infuse yourself with calm and prana.

    What the heck is "prana"??

Yeah, but I like the idea of holding poses for a while.... besides, I want to get my money's worth by taking a lot of classes.

Do you think the instructor would care if I listened to my iPod instead of her during class?

I had a cat named Kundalini. She was the feminine spirit that lay curled at the base of my lap.

Anyway, I'd probably be into yoga if I lived somewhere besides Santa Fe. The last thing I want to do is encounter all those assmunchers I nearly run over in Whole Foods parking lot all grouped together in a room, speaking in their slow, "peaceful" (read: stoned) voices about their ****ing chakras and smelling their own farts.

I just don't have the tolerance for those people.

The NYC yoga yuppies aren't much better. They go to these classes over lunch and do their "om shantis" and their "namaste" and then go back to work where they scream at their underlings.

when i was in new york i saw a yoga class outside in a park. there's a million people walking through that park. (can't remember what it's called).

i can't imagine doing some of those poses and having a bunch of people seeing.

This has been my impression^. Does that mean if I do yoga I can scream at the staff? Hmmm.

Well, I went to my yoga class last night... The resorative yoga was awesome! All we did was lay around in wierd poses for 8 minutes each, and meditate (which for me means dozing off.) I even liked the Indian music the instructor played in the background, and the hippy oil she put in our palms (aromatherapy), which is kind of silly, but smells good.

Unfortunately, due to the holiday, the second class was going to consist only of me and the instructor, which she said was fine and encouraged me to stay, but I didn't think it was very nice to make her stay to teach a class to one person, so I went home.

After being duped into taking another kandalini yoga class, I can say with certainty that I hate it. Or maybe I hate the teacher. Or maybe I hate both.

I also don't like the regulars that take that class - they are as crazy as the instructor.

The only bright spot to today's class is that my kid's former elementary school teacher was there (also by accident), and we both almost laughed out loud at some of the ridiculous inspirationals the teacher was reading to us.

Or mbe your kundalini is plenty evolved already, probably more so than the teacher. I bet s/he also makes use of a quantum e-meter to measure it (the device 'Lie'entologists use).

I was really irritated because when I didn't want to take my socks off when she suggested it (the room was ice cold), she said "okay, I guess I'll give you permission to leave them on". As if she had a choice.

    stupid wench.

LOL. You didn't reply "thank you, Master"? You aren't letting go enough. Too much attachment to your ego, Vash-Grasshopper.

Of course, I'm a hypocrite. In my MA classes, you bet I'm VERY respectful and all "hai, Sensei", etc. Of course, the fact the man could beat my ass 6 ways to Sunday or worse in an instant might have a bit to do with it. What's great is that he looks like a giant teddy bear (acts like it too). Somehow the yogis never seem to command the same respect...

Bikram Yoga is Yoga done at a really high temperature. Usually about 105 degrees, it really forces you to control your breathing and stay focused. Supposedly the high temperature makes your joints more limber, but I've read studies indicating that the high temperature only encourages muscle tear because people stretch to levels they shouldn't.

Bikram Yoga is a ridiculous cardio work-out, and makes you lose a lot of water weight.

I'd say try it once just to know what it is. Bikram really wasn't my style though, I don't like too hot temperatures, I prefer nice cool weather.

Look around for different yoga places. Some yoga places are really retarded and filled with new age yuppies who think they'll find spiritual enlightenment, one of my friends recommended the final place I went to and it was a sane relaxed place with people who liked the art and didn't have any bizarre pretense about what yoga really is.
