    I listen to every single genre of music that exists. Every single one. I enjoy every single one, and appreciate each for what it offers. It's ALL music. Just because it's not to your taste, it doesn't make it lowly or deserving of contempt.

    I can just as easily listen to Brahms, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Metallica, or The Four Seasons, to name a few out of thousands. That means I have far superior taste in music to you. That is all.

    Go back and read where I pretty much called anything but rap, music. At no time, either, did I slip in a list or brag sheet. My issue relates to rap, not to your insecurities or misplaced chest beatings.

    You actually play 8 instruments, you forgot yourself.

    As for your "superior taste in music" comment, it's moot. You have no manner in which to quantify such a silly statement.

    Rap and Hip Hop are separate entities to me.

    But you have to understand what they are first ... There is so much that goes into Hip Hop music ... they still follow the same rules as any other genre ... Scales, chords, chorus, hook, verses, beats, etc ... it's an art form like all music. I guess music is in the ear of the listener.

    Hip Hop is music ... period.

    It shouldn't even be an argument because it's a fact.

    Rap is a form of music, whether you want to admit it or not, which I know you don't. If it has rhythm or melody, it qualifies as music. By saying it's not music because you don't like it, you're being a music snob....but with no real way to justify it.

    My comment is not moot, I justified my opinion with my experience and skills. You just gave your opinion.

    My opinion from those vids is that Muse is awful. Sorry. Same for most rap.

    I will run to that eminem song, tho (Lose Yourself?). Its good at the very end for a steep hill.

    But concerts w/crowds that large and raising their fists in unison make me uncomfortable. Mob mentality.

    For dancing, I like calypso and latin music.

    I also like Afro-caribbean music and some of those ethnic/electronic blends. Alabina? When its blended w/arabic? Some short, 3-letter word... anyway, that.

    There is a difference between music and spoken word framed to a beat. William Shatner is just one prime example of this, as well as the Greenwich village set of yesteryear.

    I won't entertain the opinions of idiots on this.

    You don't have to like or dislike music to agree with me, only, be able to accurately identify it when you hear it.

    Bluesummer is an idiot on this particular point. Her ego got the better of her and she blurted before thinking.

    Wow. Someone demonstrates an ego? LOL, quick, call the Ego Police!

    I'd think you'd be the first person to call crap on that kind of thing, Doc.

    If you want to say something 'isn't music', you're entitled. Its not exactly a defined science. I've called many paintings 'not art'. Jackson Pollack comes to mind, but there are idiots who spend millions on his kindergarten works. I tend to shrug at those who would argue.

    It doesn't take a genius to know that Rap & Hip Hop are genres of music. Therefore, they are, in fact, music. Even if you take the lyrics/spoken words away, there is still music behind those words, isn't there?

    * Pronunciation: \ˈmyü-zik\
    * Function: noun
    * Usage: often attributive
    * Etymology: Middle English musik, from Anglo-French musike, from Latin musica, from Greek mousikē any art presided over by the Muses, especially music, from feminine of mousikos of the Muses, from Mousa Muse
    * Date: 13th century

    1 a : the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity b : vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony
    2 a : an agreeable sound : euphony <her voice was music to my ears> b : musical quality <the music of verse> (Perhaps this is where you disagree?)
    3 : a musical accompaniment <a play set to music>
    4 : the score of a musical composition set down on paper

    LOL. Rap isn't music. Its discordant vibrations that beat upon my eardrum in a generally displeasing manner.

    Sorry.

    Sorry, it's already a fact ... It's music. Maybe not music to your ears, but in the grand scheme of things, it's definitely music.

    How is arguing about whether/not rap is music over the internet making good use of your time?

    I personally don't think crappy music is limited to one or several 'genres' of music. On another note, is music something objective? Can music be defined in more than one way? Is 'music' a more ambiguous term for something personal? After all, music *is* personal, whether you're making it or listening to it. People relate to it through experience. Music is a mirror of self-reflection. And mirrors reflect regardless of the frame around the borders. The problems are the distractions and obstructions blocking one from their self-reflections. In other words, if you can relate to a song or a style, that's all that matters.

    Now allow me to share what I'd quite possibly consider the most invigorating composition ever written. The lyrics are deeper than ya mama's pussy.
    Pure genius behind this one. I mean that.
