50, 000 just from Chernobyl, Mish. Most unnecesary, btw.

    http://www.fas.org/rlg/ljan99.html

I dunno, tho. Cam's numbers seem too high to me also, it would be shocking if true. I would think that one would reach a critical number where women would be dying from complications/infection.

But, I'll wait for his post.

Yeh, but that's Chernobyl and abortions over entire Europe, not on average over the Soviet Union.

Here, I found some REAL statistics and comparisons http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/25s3099.html

"the Russian Federation's recorded rate--68 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44--is about the same as that of Belarus, the former Soviet republic with the highest rate. Before the breakup of the union, Soviet statistics showed Russia to have a higher rate than Belarus or any of the other republics"

20 abortions per Soviet woman, my ass!

50, 000 is just from Soviet Union, not total for Urp.

I dunno the rest. Social stats is not my area. It does seem high. Of course, China does +10M every year (that we know). Its hard to get reliable stats from those regions.

    Guess we'll see.

This is directly from the article you posted

"But there were some 50,000 baby deaths in Europe due to abortions where mothers who feared the effects of the radiation, from Chernobyl." And "Clearly, the people in Europe were not informed of the negligible (maybe healthy) effects of low radiation levels." "

Oh, you are right. It does say that. I wonder what the numbers break down is per country?

Anyway, I'm not sure Cam's point is even related to that incident. His source might be completely unrelated. I just wondered if that was perhaps what he meant b/c there was a lot of abortions as a result of that mess which could skew the data.

BTW, the author of that point was a nuclear physics guy (I think). There's a lot of unnecessary fear about nuclear power & radiation. I don't think he was saying that Chernobyl wasn't a disaster, just that people needed to calm down about how everyone was going to have Flipper Babies.

Back from out of town and eager to read LF

I'll be honest, the statistics that I read were from BI (before internet). So, giving you a link wouldn't be feasible. Statistics were from US government publications that could only be found today, if at all, in the third level basement of some library, slowing turning yellow and crumbling to dust.

Many abortions were not performed by doctors, therefore not recorded in official documents. They were, therefore, estimated based on social statistics and questionnaires of Comrade Citizens. Some were the result of ingesting home remedies that induced abortions; some were the result of infanticide.

Apparently, free love was all the rage and often without protection.

Sorry, but that's the best I can do...my memory of reading things 15-20 years ago.

Why do chicks put out for grub and a show? Because we are sexual creatures and because society pressures women to come up with some pretense before spreading their thighs.

Look, disease can be controlled. Pregnancy can be controlled. With a dash of responsibility there's no reason we shouldn't be out there having sex and enjoying sex. **** this "I love you" bullcrap. **** pretending there's some greater meaning behind it all. Call me vulgar, but when my dick rubs the inside of a pussy it feels pretty damn good. End of ****ing story.

If I'm a numb, emotionless, anti-social psychopath for not allowing the collective herd mentality of batshit insane humans from turning me into virginal pervert (and in my mind there is no greater perversity than abstinence and celibacy) then so be it. But you know what the truth is? Truth is, folks who bitch and moan about the downfall of society due to sexual depravity, those folks are jealous. They're jealous because they see a bunch of attractive men and women getting it on and they can't participate. So they sit in their lonely little houses, secretly watching the kinkiest, filthiest porn the internet can provide, and they polish their knobs in mute shame.

It also feels good to punch somebody in the face, but people tend to not do it very often because they might get punched back in return. Having promiscuous sex is even more dangerous because it plays with much more complicated emotions. In many cases it involves a high degree of manipulation, lies and leading on. In many cases promiscuous sex can be very sadistic, user oriented and uncaring to the feelings of the other person. People are used, abused and are discarded like garbage. This is the real reason why it's scoffed at by many people, not because of some fantasy oppressive society ran by celibate perverts.

I actually disagree Gribble, up to a point. I mean generally I think sexual liberation is great. But I don't think it's something that should be taken too lightly.

When you're out at a club and you see two desperates find each other, suck face and head for the door. It's pretty ugly. I'm off it.
Is it burnin'? Well, f-ck, now you're learnin'.

Yeah, but that's less to do with sexual liberation and more to do with common courtesy. I don't want to see that crap, either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling for people to drop trou' in the streets and practice baby-making. I'm just sick of the jealous prudes who deep down crave it the same as anyone else.

And Mish? Honestly, if you've got even the slightest sense of humor and you're not terribly unattractive it is entirely possible to find a girl at a bar or a party who will go home with you. Booze works wonders that way. There's no need to lie to women. It's just too bad so few women will be your friend as well as your sex partner. Either have casual sex with a floozy or engage in a ludicrous ritual of lies, exaggerated emotions, and thinly veiled prostitution.

Just because I happen to be unwilling to do either doesn't mean every guy is like that.

Those men are undervalued, but usually because they don't extend their philosophy far enough: they should be more open about their superiority, rather than giving up. Not everyone is smart enough to recognize a Rosetta stone, but most are smart enough to value it once they finally realize what it is.

Its pretty clear to me that men don't respect women who have casual sex. Not to marry and raise their children. Really, Neo and CB I call BS on you guys: would you really ever marry a woman who has slept with more partners than you? I doubt it.

But, here's a newsflash guys: there are women out there who don't respect guys who do this either. In my case, I would have concerns about their ability to participate in a mutually satisfying partnership. Casual sex, or even serial monogamy, is a repeating pattern. After a few experiences, there is very little new learned about partnerships, or oneself. Its like getting stuck in a rut where you keep repeating the same mistakes, just with different people. No growth.

For some people, I suppose there is a certain comfort in that. Its easy. Once problems arise and you begin to be challenged, just dump your partner for someone new who won't make you acutely aware of your growing pains. Personally, it reminds me of being stuck in perpetual adolescence. How very boring.

Boys, girls, men, women. Its just a matter of taste, really.
Here's my response Gribble to your post. There's nothing wrong with casual sex, provided that is all you AND your partner are really satisfied with.

How many hearts have been broken, tho, due to misrepresenting intentions? If your answer is none, or close to none, then power to you.

If not, then I would say there's a consistency problem with your attitude. Its possible to find both love and good sex within a relationship. For those who want such.

Nature abhors a vacuum. Therefore, as there are so many who are empty shells of humanity, it is natural that their minds, souls, and bodies become indiscriminate receptacles for all types of things, to include the random sex organ of another on a random Saturday night.

Again, not true of all, but it is true of far too many, particularly in Western societies that have more available to them in the form of wealth than ever--perhaps the wealth is part of the disease?
i don't think that they are totally dead. they know there is something wrong but they shift responsibility elsewhere and then it becomes 'not their fault' for the way that they are. which of course is bullshit and deep down they know it.

Well, I guess life is unfair. I don't get to have a casual, fun relationship with a quality woman. Therefore I'm forced to resort to deception, leaving a quality female broken-hearted and bitter.

Life's a bitch that way. What am I supposed to do? Utterly ruin my life just to avoid hurting the feelings of someone I don't care about beyond a simple, finite friendship? Or do I go without sex? Besides, it's all moot anyway. Tell a girl you're not interested in anything serious and if she likes you she'll swear up and down she agrees. A month later she's weeping uncontrollably and calling you a monster for leaving her. Whatever.
