Urp is mostly white. Esp compared to US. I agree & the stats don't lie.

I don't think that economic inequality necessarily = meritocracy. I agree, in a true meritocracy it would be inevitable but I don't think there are many (any?) countries in the world that would satisfy this. I'd be curious to know of one.

I agree it's not a true meritocracy and that economic inequality doesn't mean meritocracy (feudal Europe or whatnot). The US may be a "rough one" but I think it's pretty damn good

At least the US is set up to be one, yes. Canada also, but they need to get rid of the damn 'inequality' grants and such. There's no question there is bias in the system, but there are better ways to get around that (anonymous application based on objective criteria). Someone just has to tell the PC folk to shut up and too bad if they can't compete. That's how evolution works.

You would have every right to be pissed to find out that a gal, with lower marks than you, gets your place for first choice med school b/c she has XX, for example. But steel yourself for it.

i guess that's why the average age to die is 4 years younger on average than in more equal countries

What does longevity have to do with meritocracy, Eco?

dm said economic inequality and meritocracy is pretty close in the US: his statment:

The US may be a "rough one" but I think it's pretty damn good

indi you don't think economic inequality has any bearing on the length of life one has?

I didn't say anything about economic inequality. I asked you how you think longevity is related to a meritocracy. And DM agreed in his post to me that they were not the same. He suggested a connection.

You have decided to throw lifespan into the mix, Eco, and I just want to know what you mean by doing so.

The simplest explanation for your point, Eco, is that in developed nations, more women are working in high-stress occupations (that used to be the sole domain of men). Research is suggesting that the longer average lifespan that women enjoyed compared to men is lowering (looking more like men), and their incidence of heart disease (of which stress is one of the Big Three) is increasing to numbers that look a lot like those of men.

But what does that have to do with a meritocracy?

thats actuallly a very good point and worth a look. but anyway dm is linking economic inequality to meritocracy and there is a link between economic equality to longevity of life which shows in statistics that countries with less equality have a decreased life by 4 years in fact (USA being top of the pops)

    just sayin'

    all interlinked is all

No, you are just too stupid to understand anything I (or DM) said. But keep trying. Mbe one day you might get lucky and actually say something intelligent by accident.

Like Indig said, I'll wait for someone smarter to reply.

    Well, and *original* too. LOL.

Eco, you are one of the least benightedly unintelligent organic life forms it has been my profound lack of pleasure not to be able to avoid posting with.

It is entirely my mistake to call you stupid or an idiot. You are simply differently clued.
