I deliberately DON'T call guys I really like. I wait for them to contact me. One time I disappeared from this guy's life for a week to see if he'd miss me. When he called me saying, "Jeez, where the hell you been?" I was so relieved. It meant he cared about me enough to be upset if I didn't call.

This is actually a very classic scene, a girl waiting anxiously for a guy to call but acting very nonchalant when he finally does. She might very well be checking her phone constantly on the nights you usually contact her hoping to see that you called.
