    That pearl ring is hot.

Anyways, I got a very nice engagement ring, but I don't think it cost my fiance two months salary. I'd be pissed off if it did. He makes a lot of money......money better used for more important things, like the mortgage and bills and the eventual wedding.

I'd also be terrified to wear it or scratch it, if it cost that much.

Jewelry was always useless... it's just metal and pebbles that someone said is 'worth' more because it's shiny.

I'd prefer the stainless steel --- it holds up better and endures the abuse of daily life. Whereas the more expensive rings tend to be easier to destroy...

I do not share such views... my views of cheaters remain unfixed... regardless of the person. They might be a 'great' person in all other things... but I would not take interest in them romantically...

Sorry... I know it's 'unwomanly' of me.. but that's just how I see it.
OMG I love you...you need to change that LCD to OLED.

All the ring is needed for is more or less bragging rights and to show others that you are married.

My family has always felt jewelry was bs... and I have a bf who is thankful I don't care for jewelry at all...

It's conpressed carbon! Far more useful as an industrial drill or cutter...
OMG I was thinking the same thing! Diamonds are better suited towards drill bits! And now electronics! Marry me!!!

I'd prefer titanium just because it's titanium, and awesome!

Three cheers for family heirlooms. Do you know of anyone who's used the mother's engagement ring if the mother was still alive?
That's a great idea, Lovesjoyajm! I know a few that wore their mothers' dresses - of course they altered and made it look a bit more modern and fashionable.

My SIL's sister wore their mother's engagement ring - their mother was still around at that time. I thought that was the sweetest thing!

Sorry... had LCD's on the brain... OLED's are definitely better...

Yep... diamonds are the hardest rock in nature... and you want to put it on a dainty finger? Eh... best to put it to 'work'... IMHO.

Titanium is fine too... it's qualities are a little different than stainless steel... but for the simple purpose of remaining on one's finger for X number of years... it works too...

But in all honesty... think of all the cool stuff you would miss out on in favor of a tiny... barely visible sparkly pebble. Depending on the price of the ring... you would be giving up:

    a jacuzzi...
    a used Toyota...
    Joe's OLED...
    a badass computer system...
    a well stocked library...
a stereo system so powerful for the car that to sit in it while the volume is turned up could kill you...
a car built for demolition derby...
    a fully trained guard dog...
    an aluminum boat...
ten or more weeks of a house cleaner's services...
    50 hookers at $20 each...
or the down payment to place a hit on someone you don't like...

    Wikipedia <3

To make wedding rings, jewellers most commonly use a precious yellow alloy of gold, hardened with copper and Silver or tin and bismuth.
Titanium has recently become a popular material for wedding bands, due to its durability, affordability, and gunmetal grey colour.
The least expensive material in common use is nickel silver for those who prefer its appearance or cost. Marrying couples are also beginning to use stainless steel, which has the same durability as platinum or titanium, and can accept a finer finish than the latter. Steel alloys are not used as often for a wedding ring because it is impossible to cut off in an emergency like precious metals can.
Silver, copper, brass and other cheaper metals do not occur as frequently because they corrode over time and thus do not convey a sense of permanence. The slight toxicity of Aluminium and tin and carcinogenic nature of lead make them unsuitable metals. Wood, Stone and Organic materials can also be used but are more decorative and much less durable than metal.

Personally I couldn't care less about price, but as mentioned there is the traditional value that you can add to it, and if that is lacking at least I would be more interested in the properties of the material used.

I have a friend of mine who's into architecture/engineering, he designed his own wedding rings in an program used for architecture and had it custom made. Would be awesome to do that, lose the price in material cost and up the price to have it made from scratch, fair deal.

Titanium is just cool...I used to be part of an automotive society at school and we had tons of sheets of it. The awesome thing was you could take a sheet and taco it and it would snap back into place. Titanium has a very springy characteristic while still being durable. Plus it has that very cool color. Also it can be very highly polished for a near chrome look with a tint of gold. Steel on the other hand is usually just as strong and in some cases stronger but it can be more brittle in that it doesn't flex like titanium. It's also heavier.

    fras...lol

I've never been a 'real' jewelry person before, so the worth of an engagement ring is most defnitely not important to me. I've seen one for 5 hundred and change and still thought it was too much.

Just like name brand clothes. Ridiculous prices. I always say "You could've bought ten outfits with the money you paid for that one outfit." It's crazy.

I know even if I became wealthy I would not spend my money on ridiculously expensive items especially when they are not necessary. Better things to purchase.

    Like diapers and formula

(I know someone was bound to say it eventually)
