"The weakest soul, knowing its own weakness, and believing this truth that strength can only be developed by effort and practice, will, thus believing, at once begin to exert itself, and, adding effort to effort, patience to patience, and strength to strength, will never cease to develop, and will at last grow divinely strong."
- James Allen

I used to, when I lived in the states. But no, I don't. However, Canada has a very socialist system, more than the US in fact, so the issues are very similar.
In fact, not too long ago there was an interesting problem with folks receiving their gov't welfare cheques. I think Canada Post delivery was on strike. So all these folks had to show up *in person, with ID* to receive their money. I think, that month, there were over 8000 unclaimed cheques. Anyone able to figure the reason why?

Very simple reason: some jackass(es) didn't do their job, lol.
Nope. Try again.

A grizzly bear came into the post office one night and shit on everybody's mail?
around here a lot of old people get their social security checks and go right to the casino to smoke, drink, and gamble away the hard earned money i put into that fund.
we're paying taxes for the following reasons in it's most to least expensive order: social security/medicare. military. giving more money to rich people/bailouts. other stuff. in a ration kinda like this one...
ss/medicare/military/bailouts 99999999999999999999999999999999% to other stuff .9999999999999999999999999999999%
okay that's a little bit of an exaggeration but you know what i mean.

The answer is most of those unclaimed cheques were cheaters. Some people were receiving 3, 4 welfare cheques or lied in some other way. They couldn't produce the ID to pick it up in person.

AP: POW benefit claimants exceed recorded POWs
AP
By ALLEN G. BREED, AP National Writer Allen G. Breed, Ap National Writer – Sat Apr 11, 4:49 pm ET
Prisoners of war suffer in ways most veterans don't, enduring humiliating forced marches, torture or other trauma that may haunt them long afterward. In partial recompense, the government extends them special benefits, from free parking and tax breaks to priority in medical treatment.
Trouble is, some of the much-admired recipients of these benefits apparently don't deserve them.
There are only 21 surviving POWs from the first Gulf War in 1991, the Department of Defense says. Yet the Department of Veterans Affairs is paying disability benefits to 286 service members it says were taken prisoner during that conflict, according to data released by VA to The Associated Press.
A similar discrepancy arises with Vietnam POWs. Only 661 officially recognized prisoners returned from that war alive — and about 100 of those have since died, according to Defense figures. But 966 purported Vietnam POWs are getting disability payments, the VA told AP.
Being classified as a POW doesn't directly increase a veteran's monthly disability check. There's no "POW payment."
let's stop giving benefits to POW's because some people are scamming the system!

Good, means some office bureaucrat someplace is finally doing something to justify their paycheck. Cheques not = number of registered is the simplest check that should be done. Random requirement to produce ID (but at least once annually) is another.
The payments could be going to spouses, btw.
Sounds like someone's desperate for article ideas, tho. Not the best I've read. Thanks for posting tho.

lol mmmmmmmhmmmm.
should we get started on the number of children that would starve should their meth head mom fail a drug test?
baby ya hustle. but me i hustle harder.
Children of a meth addict should be taken away until he/she can demonstrate responsibility. Then they wouldn't starve.
Are you saying that folks receiving social assistance *shouldn't* be accountable for their government handout (i.e. our tax dollars)? There's a big difference b/t cutting off the truly needy and making sure those who get help actually ARE needy.

what about potheads? they should have their kids taken from them? while alcoholics get to keep their kids and their benefits?
i don't think big companies on wall street deserve our tax dollars.
i don't think "freeing and/or liberating" iraqies deserve our tax dollars.
i don't think giving old people a bunch of money every month to blow at the casino deserve our tax dollars.
i believe our tax dollars should go toward feeding people in our country, regardless of their choice of lifestyle.
