    Humans are not monogamous.

At least not in the sense of one partner forever.

There are "lesser" species that keep that commitment way better than we ever will.

like swans? someone told me that once that they stay with the same partner all their lives

why do you think humans can't be, we have free will don't we?

but once the chemistry dies, don't you feel longing for someone else?

Well, we're murderous, thieving, lying, xenophobic little bastards by nature too, Fras. Eco's right. The fact that we have choice makes us more than animals.

Yep. Effort is part of it...

We all make choices despite what we may feel. I know I felt like killing someone....(can I say that?)

Of course! Let it out. I'm sure we've all felt that way at some point. It doesn't make you a bad person. Unless you actually did kill someone. Something you want to confess, Lesa?

No comment. I have served my time. That was the past.

LOL..just kidding. I would try my hardest to avoid getting in any situation where that is a possibility hehe.

....same goes for cheating, etc, etc.

    That's my point.

It's a matter of strong will, not instinct.

Monogamy is so rare in the animal world that only 3-5 % of the mammals are known to form lifelong pair bonds, like beavers, otters, jackals, foxes, some bats and a few dwarf deer and antelopes.
That was a quick google search for monogamous species. Of those that are, do you think they're putting in the same effort we do? Without laws, and morals, and child support?

    I doubt it.

Yep I have no doubt that most of us (especially men) are natural polygamous.

Me personally, avoiding cheating is not difficult. People who have it bad are (imo) with their first partner, or those with unresolved issues in their relationship/not happy.

Me personally, avoiding intentionally killing someone is not difficult....unless I am pissed off to the highest level of pissivity which is extremely rare and only one person got me to that level.

I'm pretty damn monogamous. I've never been with more than one person at a time, lol.

    Never wanted to be.

This thread is a load of shit.

i can only be monogamous, i can't concentrate otherwise, men are so much work, i used a diary recently that helped but in fairness i got caught out a few times with associating another guy with another..i got caught, too much hassle

So you're saying you've only ever had 1 partner, whom you are still currently with?

I made my point clear, you're dodging the points I made.

    As usual.
