misombra - what's the difference between salsa and merengue? Because, I learned a little bit of Merengue in Costa Rica and was wondering what the differences were.

You can be single or in a relationship and have a dance partner, it's just a matter of finding someone that shares your interest.
That wants to learn, practice, and enjoy your company.
Like a friend, that you can rely on to be there and have a fun time.

As for the difference between Salsa & Merengue...
Salsa is a fast tempo type of dance with lots of spins, tricks, and not as much frame, but more loose and a lot more fun in the social scene, but requires a lot more leading from the men to transition from one move to the other and help the women with what to expect next making Cross Body Lead, the most important move.
P.S. http://www.salsadynasty.com/main/turns.html
For Salsa basics.

With Merengue, it's more hips, Closed Frame with shoulders not moving, and small steps counting to 4 or 8.

Here are some examples :

Yes, right now, in fact. Nadal is an animal. Christ I thought he'd crap out already after the last match. Hooray for lefties!

the footing is different.

merengue is left right left right left right etc.

salsa is right-left-right left-right-left right-left-right left-right-left.

like that.

merengue is fast. anyway listen to the music you can hear the difference.

Might be bad to get my hopes up, but Im glad that I stand a pretty good chance of getting a job down at uni that would solve finances quite well while being fairly simple, not having to worry about transport and easy to get into. Fulfilled all the criteria really well, just have to hope that they don't notice that my average grade percentage is a mere 0.75% below what they demand.

I got a first semi-date acceptance (meeting up to talk about music) since the break up from a beautiful lady in my dance class.

Well, later today I'm finally going to start dancing with this girl I met at a club for some dance lessons, and I'm quite familiar with these routines.
Hope she excepts me for who am I and that I am a good enough dance partner to help her out.

Been a great few days so far, so hope it continues.

That reminds me, I enjoyed an orange today. Not many people pause and think about the great experience of eating an orange, the simple geometry of it hiding a very deep taste. So many bodily functions operating in unison to deliver such a simple process. It was there, then it was gone, a metaphorical symbolism of life and death? A lifetime compressed to the fraction of seconds. It was a great moment in time brilliantly captured with that single act of simple consumption.

I might have another one.
