I'm wondering how a teenager can register as a sex offender by having photos of other their own age? I swore sex offenders were 18 and above! Stupid case ... It's just a bunch of kids messing around. While I do feel it's wrong for teens to be "sexting" each other, it's hardly something I think a teenager should be prosecuting for.

They should also be arrested for pedophilia and classified as sex predators through fondling under aged private parts while washing themselves in the shower!

They usually throw more at the defendants than they expect to stick. This way, the jury can feel generous by convicting them of a lesser offense, or the kids will plead out to a lesser charge.

It's a throwback to child pornography laws. IE: You cannot willingly film yourself while underage, and then distribute the materials after you turn 18 legally.
It does seem a bit extreme, but on the other hand I imagine they're wanting to set an example to try and prevent general stupidity like this from children who do not understand the basic ramifications of what they're doing.

That's fair enough, but they seem to be doing more punishing than protecting in this instance. The charges seem way too excessive to fit the crime. Next thing you know they will be charging kids for drug dealing if they are caught sipping bear (illegal substance while under age).
