I said nothing about soft scientists, I SAID soft SCIENCE and math. As is, a soft, non-hard, non-rigorous approach to it

No it's not a quote from Flatlant, it's a quote from a mathematician who did some rigorous work in different areas

And that quote wasn't vague at all

It is a message to people trying to comprehend a "4th dimension" in spatial terms, and the message is pretty clear: Stop being dumbasses

That's not what the quote says, DM. That's your interpretation. It says not to look for extra scientific explanations for what is simply explained (by elegant math, I suppose).

I knew that wasn't Einstein. He would have said it better. Its needlessly complex for a simple idea, that quote is beautifully ironic, in fact. I was surprised you agree as it touches upon things like evoking 'spiritual' explanations for things that are rational.

    Good that you appreciate it.

    Oh. My. God.

That is NOT what it means! The guy was LITERALLY just being a fuccking DICK to people misinterpreting the idea of a dimension. Of course I had more context than you, because now all I remember is the quote

He WAS in PARTICULAR talking about people thinking of things like 4 dimensional objects and trying to visualize them spatially!!!

If I had the context I would provide it with you but I don't

Then its a shite quote, DM. If it can't stand on its own without more context. Sorry babe. Too many undefined terms in there.

    Here's a better one:

An attempt at visualizing the Fourth Dimension: Take a point, stretch it into a line, curl it into a circle, twist it into a sphere, and punch through the sphere.

No, it's a great quote because it can be used to shut up your annoying friends and is an insult

And it CAN stand on its own without more context. You just completely missed the mark. I told that to one of my friends who takes crazy ninja math classes and he thought it was hilarious

The quote was from Hermann Weyl

Except when they come back with a better one. That one was totally 'baffle them with bullshit' and its pretty obvious.

If you ever use that quote as an insult because someone is being annoying, as I did once this last semester (and only ever actually) then they were so much in the wrong themselves already that there's no way out of that hole

I just asked my husband about this quote, DM. He said it was shite too and I'm not misinterpreting it.

You and your husband think very much alike then

Weyl wasn't considering scientific data to fill the other dimensions

Yea, he's a pretty stupid guy that doesn't understand much math I guess.

That quote has nothing to do with understanding math. It's just a mathematician being a dick

Exactly. Hence my Einstein quote. He never felt the need to be a dick.

So he had a slightly different disposition. That doesn't make his quotes any wiser or greater or give them more academic authority. Look at Williams syndrome. Ignorance is bliss

Whatever, DM. Only insecure ppl need to do things like that, IMO.

    I don't care if he's insecure, it's still funny
