vending machine to fight crime

My prof was telling us about this japanese invention. Basically, its an outfit that a woman can wear when she's walking home alone at night. If she senses that someone (possibly a thief) is following her...she can then change into a vending machine outfit that will camouflage her from criminals. This was invented to combat crime in Japan despite that its a nation with the lowest crime rate. What do you think?

can anyone see the image attached? If you can't..tell me.

Oh, and here's the article for it->http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/20/world/asia/20japan.html

Unless the person following them is drunk...I don't think it's going to work. LOL

The criminals in Japan would have to be a lot dumber than the ones in the U.S. to fall for such silliness.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

tbh, i do think it would work if a bad person was chasing someone, coz they are frantically looking for a person and wouldn't notice that the person being chased had changed their appearance. i know looking at the pic it's obvious, but you may be running away from a crazed lunatic not a reasonable or necessarily intelligent person. i think it could work in certain circumstances.

no i'm sayin if a girl is being chased at night she could quite possibly hide and get away with it, i've no idea how the setting up or carrying it works. if it took 2 seconds to do then i could see it working at night maybe.....no i'm not kidding haha security for women is a real worry and if there is a chance it could help women then i'm all for it. not all nasty crimminals are that clever...so you never know

They don't need it in Japan. Their crime rate is pretty low. It would make a decent Halloween costume, though.

But what do you do if the rapist is thirsty?

Had to carry a personal alarm device on me when working nights on a job I had, actually not bad, sure I never needed to use it but as long as you're in a populated area you can expect someone to hear it and be there within a minute rather than getting mugged and beaten up for ten minutes before anyone might've noticed.

This vending machine suit wont work since it obviously takes a bit of time to get up (except for the one-side-only one, which is crap anyways), requires you to wear a specific type of clothing each time, depends on where you are at (who the hell would be fooled by a vending machine standing alone in the middle of a park?), and still always assumes that you notice the person following you, but that they still cant be too close (need time to set it up) and still doesn't do a thing when things go down.

No, you all don't get it. The criminals in Japan are really polite and they'll look away while she's changing.
