I think his being elected will change a lot of things. Minorities, like myself, have never even thought of anyone less than white being president. I feel as though it'll help ease racial tension in many areas and also takes away an excuse that minorities have been accustomed to using ...

I hope maybe we can move toward dropping the concept of minorities now and just accept that we're all American regardless of color and regardless of where our great great grandfathers were born. No more of this African American or Asian American bullshit. Just plain old American across the board as it should be.

I would love that too! trust me....but it isn't race that separates us...it is money. Some people just seem to think that he is going to make their poor a$$ richer. Hell no, even with Obama as president the poor will still be poor and the rich will still be rich. The rich run this country, it will always be this way.

I know exactly how hard Obama had to work to get where he did, college-wise. Again, its the difference b/t thinking of him as 'Saviour' (those dumb schoolteachers) vs. 'Inspiration'.

Obama didn't take a day off after being elected. He was up early & right back at it. He's an inspiration. Same as ppl like Oprah, who also worked her ass off. Or Bill Gates or Steve Jobs for that matter. Those who are willing to work, get, in the US. THAT is what makes it so remarkable. That kind of freedom *isn't* found in a lot of other countries around the world. Obama has just shown that those who whine they are being prevented from this b/c of race/sex/etc are full of self-pity & shit.

He should change his motto to "YOU can too" (if you are prepared to work at it).

I agree. I hope to think he might be one of the best Presidents we have had. I just don't understand the mind frame of some of his followers.

There's something about him in the white house that fills you with hope.

What's not to understand? Its victim mindset. Looking for excuses where personal responsibility doesn't have to play a role.

One of the lovely things about the US is that it comes closest (or at least sets the theoretical standard) for a true meritocracy. Sure, there are other issues at play, but as more visible minorities acheive and pave the way for others, their excuses become less valid.

I'm a woman trained in science. Historically, this was a minority achievement and a BFD. Not anymore. Now its just a question of who is good & who isn't. A good thing, I think.

We know a lot of ppl voted for Obama b/c of his race. Shrug. A lot of women would have voted for Hillary for the same reason. I just happen to think it means they had to be that much better to get there. Again, it sets an example for others & paves the way for the future.

I wish I could care that he was black just so I could understand the hype and criticism.

    Here's a funny thing.

I believe that many people that were against Obama were looking...begging that he would show some kind of behavior or say something that is stereotypical urban thug, because they would have hung on to that like flies on shit.

But he never did, or at least not enough to catch attention.

So instead, I repeatedly saw quotes of people saying things like "he scares me", "he makes me uncomfortable", "I'm frightened at what he will do", and the classic, "he fits the description of the anti-christ.

    Why?

Because he has proved himself to be perfectly competent. Because he speaks well and is quick to counter point. Because he managed to keep his composure under stress. Because he doesn't fit their stereotypical, drug dealing, negro.

Y'know, I was talking to this amazingly beautiful woman today and she mentioned exactly that. Everyone seems so hopeful now that Obama's been elected. Everyone's having a great day. She asked me if I attributed my so-far excellent week to Obama's victory.

Also she wore this lavender blouse with the top buttons undone just enough that I couldn't actually see her cleavage but all I could think about was how if she just tugged the shirt a little bit or loosened the next button it'd be right there. Oh my god, ladies take notice: that is so much hotter than just baring it all. Goddamn, I wanted to rip that blouse open and take her right there in public. I didn't tell her that was the reason I was so happy and upbeat while we spoke.

Sheep. Baaah. You can actually tell who's got real brains & who is just hype based on their response to this election.

Anyway, Obama has brought on Rahm Emanuel. Genius. The comments so far on this have been "oh, but he's got brass balls...that's not very sporting".

The more I read about Obama the more impressed I am. The guy KNOWS he will need *all* sorts of talent to get anything done in shark-infested Washington, not just the idealists. Plus, its always better to leave the hard ball stuff to ppl that enjoy it. Obama is a smooth operator, reminds me a lot of Clinton. I think its a good decision.

    No shit.

That's what it takes for most people to realize, though; things broadcasted, years in advance, international ceremonies, blah blah blah.
