It wouldn't be my first choice, but a lot of people (unfortunately) NEED professional care when they are old. A person with moderate-to late stage dementia and diabetes, along with all that diabetes implies: impaired vision, heart disease, renal failure, necrotic feet, and pressure wounds (BTW - that isn't an uncommon scenario) usually requires more care than the average person can provide, and even if they could provide the care, it is a full-time job (and I mean around-the-clock, so forget sleeping) The situations often occur at a time when you are working on raising your own kids.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

my grandad had a stroke and lost the ability to speak and move one side of his body.

he was in a bed at home for 2 years.

mainly, it was his second sons wife and my grandmother who took care of him.

but my mum and 2 other aunts would go weekly to help out.

he had a care person who came home daily, but no way would my grandmother ever have forgave us if we put him in a home.

and besides whats the point of children if there gona be so busy wth there own liives they can't take care of their parents?

i know for a fact, when i get married i'm gona have to stay with my husbands parents. not because he can't afford his own place, but so that we can take care of em for a lil while.

its a sign of respect i guess.

I think that is the way it should be, it shouldn't be the parents decision to decide who takes care of them.
The siblings should get together and contribute equally, so no is to blame for not helping out.

Fras, I think it's a little early to worry about those things. Would you end the relationship IF that were the case? You're too young to worry about it at this point in your relationship but I understand WHY it would be a concern. You haven't even had sex yet sweetie! Let it go for now. When the time comes and you think you're ready to settle down then contemplate the issue.

Chris and I have know we'll be the ones taking care of our parents. If were able then they stay with us and we hire help. But we also know our limitations and God willing we won't have to place them in a home. It's a very difficult decision. But we also know our parents don't "expect" us to take them in, but it's not a choice it's already been said, they'd stay with us.

So Fras, breathe, and enjoy the time with Amy!
everything happens for a reason...beginning to wonder why.

i think that you're worrying too much about the whole relationship thing. just remember that life is good and it could always be worse.

Let's hope for your sake that they are no more ill than a stroke, then.

Well, there IS some truth to 'marry a girl you marry her family' (or his). If they are serious, you need to know this sooner rather than later. Doesn't mean you'll actually DO anything, but a family's attitude toward things like money, kids, religion, etc are important to know when considering marriage.

That said, I'd put myself on an ice flow before letting my son's life get messed up because MY poor planning. As for illness, we have both a will & a 'living will' that describes what we'd want in various instances.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

    lol?

He's dating Amy. Her dad called to say hi. They live together. She's over the age of consent.

Why in the hell would you assume he's a pedophile?
