it's really hard to summarize a whole series, here's the intro:

a girl (faye valentine) was in a coma of some sort, she just now realizes that she's missed 30 years or something of her life, and some dude put her in rehabilitation to get her memory back, she falls in love with him and it's all good, then he gets killed when someone tries to hunt her down, and she ends up inheriting everything he ever owned, even his debts, so she has to work as a card dealer to pay it all off and then her boss gives her this job to steal something and now she's got a bounty on her head, that's when a bounty hunter tries to capture her to get the money and that's where the story gets interesting...keep in mind, my summary is not in order, you don't know any of this until later in the story, but trust me, it's a good series...don't watch the ones on adult swim tho, subtitles are better than dubbed.

    Billie,

You can't say anime sucks cause you saw ONE show (which wasn't even Anime BTW) and jugde the entire anime industry on that. That'd be like me turning on the TV, watching "Frasier" and saying, "Wow. TV shows suck. I'm never watching one again". Anime is VERY varied. Different genres, from serious to comedy, romance to betrayel, dark plots, happy plots, confusing plots, action, adventure, etc. I would watch maybe two or three episodes of any series before denouncing it.

    Panda,

Decent list, but I have to disagree with some of the descriptions . . .

Initial D (street car racing - to differentiate. If you like nascar or IHRA, you won't like this. If you like the thought of two guys pulling up to a line and racing around corners and tricky roads, you'll like this.)

Tenchi Muyo (I'd say romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist)
Rurouni Kenshin (comedy/action - samurai style)
Noir (action/drama. Two female, modern day assassins. So expect lots of guns and bombs. VERY cool. 2001 or 2002 anime of the year.

I have a silly question I have the old Vampire Hunter D and still like it despite the hokeyness. (One of the first that I saw, well actually Unico was the first Anime I saw but I was so young I am embarrassed to admit I watched it.) I saw that there was another Vampire Hunter D out there - is it related to the first one?

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust. Don't know. I have both, but I haven't seen either (I stockpile the anime's that have had good reviews. I haven't seen as much as I would have liked to, but I have seen a decent amount.)

According to the reviews and summaries, it's the same D as before. Just with a slightly different task. And the second one marks higher on the rating lists than the first.

Major Points for Rod - - he's an avid reader and an expert on Anime. Is there anything that you don't know?

I'm literally a 'jack of all trades, master of none.'

The trade I'm trying to master? Clarinet. Although apparently so are like another million people in the US so even THAT wouldn't be a big accomplishment.

well i don't count nascar as "racing". and by racing i mean the feeling you get when you are driving a car around curves not straights and ovals...that's like endurance...it's boring...but i'm opinionated. so ya, that anime is more on technical racing and "street" but not F&F. ...just watch it...

Too bad you aren't closer - - you would be fun to hang out with. I have season tickets to the Opera and the symphony but usually go by myself. Not to mention all my friends who think I am crazy for all that "fancy book reading" I do. LOL

Anyway. . .so the quest for new and intersting anime begins with good recommendations . . .

It's pretty sad that I know enough about hentai (porn anime) that I knew EXACTLY which hentai Billy was talking about. That takes TRUE dorkness. I went through years and years of dork training and am among the elite.

First off, what happened to your 'a's?

Secondly, the girl went insane. happens all the time.

As for the 'La Blue Girl' that Billy said, it's MEANT to be a funny comedy. It's meant to be 'porn comedy', pretty much a SPOOF of hentai. I can't think of an equivalent in America. But it's supposed to be funny because the only way the girl can travel into the magical world where she's this super hero is if she orgasms. And then the way the people fight is through orgasms and sexual stuff. It really is hilarious!
