Why can't I smile to girls?

Hi to everyone,

I am new to this forum, but I hope someone can help me out.

When I see someone I am interested in I try to make eye contact and send a friendly smile towards them.
Of course I get a smile back, but seconds later they ask me "Why do you smile/laugh at me? Is it something I have done?". They of course don't ask me it in a angry tone or something, but more in an embarrassment/friendly way.

This happened to me already a few times.
I really need some explanation.

Maybe when you smile your mouth hangs open a little and makes it look like you are laughing. Apparently that is how I smile and my sisters brought it to my attention. That might be it

you can bullshit it it too. you could be like "you look really similar to a friend of mine" or "the way you came over here reminded me of a girl who accidentally tripped herself at my work..." and start some story or something.

I don't think my mouth hang a little open when I smile, but I smile a lot.

I sometimes have the same problem . I dont know about you but for me it has to do with nervousness. Once I talked to someoen for a few mintues it goes away. I think I'm getting better at it.
I know this might sound starnge but maybe you might have to practice infront of a mirror for awhile until you can do it naturally.
Of course dont let anyyone see you doing this or you might end up in the mental hospital!

Really? They ask you why you smile at them? That's odd. Everyone always asks me why I don't smile, meanwhile they flash their stupid little grins at everyone who happens to make eye contact.

Maybe, but regardless, I'm predisposed to keeping a cool/reserved demeanor.

My girlfriend is the only girl I don't mind smilin' like a fool around.
