A few years ago, I read an article in Newsweek that said that the US was becoming a porn society. Okay, I'm not a prude--I've been to strip joints during my military days. I've been with a few women over the years...but porn society is a step beyond. I kind of ignored the article as anything serious.
Back in the day...if you looked at any porn picture it took like five seconds to recognize that there was a smallish group of women and men in the industry. These days, it seems like everytime something flashes on the computer screen (pop ups) there's about a thousand new "faces" in the industry. And, in talking with 20 somethings in particular, it seems like there's a very high percentage who have done an amateur porn movie with either their significant other of the moment or a whole group of people in an orgy of some type. Also, straight guys and women who do gay or lesbian things just to "see what it is like."
Maybe that article was right. But with so many people getting into the act either professionally or on an amateur basis (appearing on youtube within minutes of production)...what the hell? I mean, how can someone who does this actually spend anytime thinking about their careers, their lives, their work, making and saving money.
It seems very animalistic, nihilistic, etc. If the US youth are really into this as much as it would appear, where's the country going in the next 20 years? Is this a brewing public health problem? I mean, the whole HPV thing is really just the tip of the iceberg I would think. Does become a criminal justice problem? Does it effect long term relationships? Families?
Is it even related to the terrorism issue? I mean, doesn't radical Islam consider the US to be the Great Satan for its promiscuity? Are people attracted to radical Islam because they see the US as sexually out of control beyond belief (no pun intended)? Does "porn society" turn various peoples of the world against us...lose respect for us as a society?
I'm just posing questions. I'm not throwing my hands up in anxiety or anything because I think that there's alot more to know about all of this before we as a society come to any conclusions.
