    Porn Society?

A few years ago, I read an article in Newsweek that said that the US was becoming a porn society. Okay, I'm not a prude--I've been to strip joints during my military days. I've been with a few women over the years...but porn society is a step beyond. I kind of ignored the article as anything serious.

Back in the day...if you looked at any porn picture it took like five seconds to recognize that there was a smallish group of women and men in the industry. These days, it seems like everytime something flashes on the computer screen (pop ups) there's about a thousand new "faces" in the industry. And, in talking with 20 somethings in particular, it seems like there's a very high percentage who have done an amateur porn movie with either their significant other of the moment or a whole group of people in an orgy of some type. Also, straight guys and women who do gay or lesbian things just to "see what it is like."

Maybe that article was right. But with so many people getting into the act either professionally or on an amateur basis (appearing on youtube within minutes of production)...what the hell? I mean, how can someone who does this actually spend anytime thinking about their careers, their lives, their work, making and saving money.

It seems very animalistic, nihilistic, etc. If the US youth are really into this as much as it would appear, where's the country going in the next 20 years? Is this a brewing public health problem? I mean, the whole HPV thing is really just the tip of the iceberg I would think. Does become a criminal justice problem? Does it effect long term relationships? Families?

Is it even related to the terrorism issue? I mean, doesn't radical Islam consider the US to be the Great Satan for its promiscuity? Are people attracted to radical Islam because they see the US as sexually out of control beyond belief (no pun intended)? Does "porn society" turn various peoples of the world against us...lose respect for us as a society?

I'm just posing questions. I'm not throwing my hands up in anxiety or anything because I think that there's alot more to know about all of this before we as a society come to any conclusions.

and i love all these little girls who want to do porn, it gives me a reason to pay my internet bills on a monthly basis..hahah

well i know the porn industry is probably a very profitable business for the makers of porn, not for the actors. if it's making money, then why not exploit it for all that it's worth. as far as america going overboard, it might not be as bad as you think. take a look at the foreign countries. in some places in europe, they show porn on the local channels after 10. i don't exactly remember which country it was, but they relate our violence to their porn. they detest how we show violence on tv, yet they view porn as perfectly fine. it just depends on your view points.

CAm you think the US is bad when it comes to porn? There was an article saying that more and more girls in Great Britain where going to porn because of money and that it has be come more accepted over there as a real job. Yes there is a lot of sexy imagery in the US and I do think some of it should go bye bye, but society has to do that as a whole to change it. I do my part by not allowing the sex image sell me on the product. I do notice it and may point it out, but I look past it.

True enough. It is bad in other parts of the world, too. I agree though that avoiding porn is a vote against it. But, it seems we have become very resigned to its presence, as if we lack any collective or individual will to effect change.

When you have no Will to act into the present to change it into some future, then you lack any reason for existence. Even the act of procreation requires Will. If a significant portion of a society (national or global) finds that masturbation with the aid or porn is enough for them, the no Will is required...in fact, no society is required. The use of one's eyes, hands, and genitalia is all one needs.

Incidentally, this site is called "Love Forum." Love in itself necessitates Will--a collective Will of sorts.

The Will is what separates humans from other beings who have only the most limited sense of Will.

CAM I don't think we are on the same page. If society its self allows it then let it have it. Personally I have no problem with sexual imagery as long as it is directed to the 18 and over crowd. I would actually would want the US more like Europe where people have no problem being confident sexually and being confident about it as well. Heck look how many nude beaches there are in Europe compared to the US and how open the nude beaches are in Europe compared to the US.

So...are you trying to say the acceptance of pornography is the equivalent of human beings having no "Will"?

Do you have to Will yourself to sound so stupid?

Or is it a lack of Will that prevents you from saying something remotely intelligent?

I think what Cam means is that the amount of pornography available nowadays makes real, live people unnecessary for sexual gratification. I almost disagreed, but then I remembered the number of people (usually male) who are "addicted" to porn to the point where they ignore the women in their lives.

I think the computer-age is making us an increasingly isolated population, and pornography addiction is merely one expression of that isolation.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

I can't tell you how many older females have said this. They also say that with computers things are getting less personal and people are getting more distant because of it. I think this is part of the reason why sites like MySpace are so dam popular because it offers a communication line that humans need as we are social creatures.

I would agree. Actually, it increasingly doesn't even require photos of real live people--have you noticed the increasing number of computerized images and porn cartoons?

Of course they ignore the real women in their lives...absolutely agree. The porn addict generally is misogynistic, too. The train themselves through their actions to believe that autoerotic pleasure is the one reward that they can get from a woman or a man.

As far as electronic social interaction...nothing replaces reality. Reality is a place where you actually have to respond real-time to other people. The electronic world (and I've been around long enough to have had a Heathkit H-8 and used a Commodore 64 for my senior year college papers) can be a great place to be honest with one another; it is also a great place for lies.

Porn is a lie. It is a form of anti-social behavior. One can spend hours just searching, searching, searching for the ultimate fantasy image of the moment and you don't have to compromise...the image is out there. So, imperfect masturbator gets exactly what he/she wants (usually, he) even though he could never in a million years get that woman's attention.

Actually, the earlier comment to me was right...I guess the masturbator does have Will...in fact, only he has Will. He's sort of the sexual dictator of the moment.

Reality, you get a real person who is not perfect. And neither are you. You have to face reality. You have to compromise if you choose to engage in any form of relationship.

So, porn society...you learn how you don't have to compromise. A correction to my earlier statement...ONLY the viewer/masturbator has any form of Will. And the viewer/masturbator teaches himself how to be an anti-social personality.

Great, huh? Is that kind of society sustainable? No.

    My point is:

It's not as bad as you're making it out to be.

And? With computers people can explore different types of porn that where never around before. Whats wrong with that?

Of course they ignore the real women in their lives...absolutely agree. The porn addict generally is misogynistic, too. The train themselves through their actions to believe that autoerotic pleasure is the one reward that they can get from a woman or a man.
Uh people like me who are not addicted to porn, do not ignore real women at all. But I can see a porn addict doing this tho.

As far as electronic social interaction...nothing replaces reality. Reality is a place where you actually have to respond real-time to other people. And that is the beauty of the electronic world. You can make it what ever you want it to be.

How the heck is porn a lie? What is the lie? And I don't think it is anti-social behavior at all. Someone who is a porn addict may take on anti-social behavior. But as the woman that is in that image the person is looking at that is most probably one of the good things about porn. A person can seek out a picture of a women that in reality they will never get the chance to actually have sex with for various reasons, so having the picture satisfies the persons need.

Reality, you get a real person who is not perfect. And neither are you. You have to face reality. You have to compromise if you choose to engage in any form of relationship.
    Very true.

Great, huh? Is that kind of society sustainable? No.
Like Frasbee said it is not big of a deal as you think it is. Society is not run of porn. If it was then our culture would be a lot different.

CAM it seems that you think this is some dooms day thing or something. Maybe you need to explore other parts of society because our society is complex and there are lots of stuff good and bad out there.

Who cares if their are more porn addicts? Better that these people jerk out a few knuckle children into their hand than into a female. It helps cleanse the gene pool of morons.
People are bastard coated bastards with bastard filling
