my ex was 10 inches taller than me and it was quite nice actually, because I'd hug him around his waist and he'd wrap me completely and place his head on my head. It felt like I was completely enveloped =)

Your right.
I have found that it really depends on a bunch of thing, but primary it matters on the following:Let me restate that: Girls, suppose you are going to hug a friend in greeting, and your face measures up to around his rib cage. How do you want him to hug you?
- How close of friends you are.
- The current social situation (ie its formal or relax etc)
- How confrontable the girl is with your height.
But primary the two hugs that I give to girls is either around the waist and to one side, or the hug I describe in my post above. If its around the waist, I just use one arm.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
+1. As long as your hug is enthusiastic and friendly, it doesn't matter where you hug. Just hug where it feels comfortable, and make it a good, firm hug. I've taught a few of my guy friends how to hug properly, as opposed to the wimpy hugs they used to give, and it's a huge improvement.
