    general friendship question

this is to prove my brother wrong. i need another voice in on this argument.

regardless to age/gender/race and friend/best friend/girlfriend/wife/husband a friend should always help the best he or she can, to the best of his or her ability to help a friend in need. be it support, be it advice, be it a shoulder to cry on, be it the clothes off one's back.

I disagree, only because it depends on the kind of help.

"Hey... My car just broke down. I know you're a multi-millionaire, and I need to borrow $50,000 for a new car. You know I'm good for it, I'll pay you back."

Funny how you never hear from the "friend" after that....

Basically yeah, but even if it wasn't from personal experience I would have the same thing to say.

Can't find him. And even still, it's such a small amount of money to me that I don't really care. I just saw how much of a low-life he is. (Not talking about multi-millionaire to $50K proportions)

i mean, i wasn't actually suggesting you break his legs for the money with a bat. anyway, loaning money to friends is never a good idea, unless its only a couple bucks. friends tend to be cheap bastards.

Neither a borrower nor lender be...

Anyway, most people would not fall into the category of "friend" that you describe, lilwing, and if they do, they are worth their weight in gold.

Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

the issue with friends and money is a delicate one. there are friends that you know will repay you back in some way and you wouldnt have to ask. there are other friends that wont even bother to pay you back, and be just like "youre my friend." i guess it really depends on what level your friendship is with someone.

Time heals everything. If we can re-live the moments that we regret. i miss you bob.

It depends on how close the person is to me. The more closer they are the more support I would expect them to give me within their abilites.

sometimes helping a friend in need means leaving them alone and not helping them.

I agree with this to a certain degree. Loyalty is important. However, I also believe that if someone jumps into a deep, dark chasm- for instance my friend starts doing herion- she's NOT getting the clothes off my back.

Sometimes people need to learn to stand on their own.

He did say "the best he or she can".

I am under the assumption that means within reason.

Anybody could go to the ends of the Earth to help somebody, but that's simply not practical.
