this is only partially relevant, I guess, but I just have to put it here;
http://www.d.umn.edu/~jvaleri/dissatisfaction%20with%20bodies.htm

was kind of eye opening for me anyway. I knew that only 2% of the population are actually model thin, and how the media is influencing women's self-image and so on.. still it's striking to see Monroe looking much more 'normal' than todays ultra thin magazine-cover ideal.
I have always been (needlessly?) unhappy about my body/weight one way or another and I suspect most women are/have been.
eh, I'd say we've got nothin' to worry about tho.

I really wish we could go back to the Monroe image. I think we eventually will, but for now it sucks. The media makes it look like your ribs are supposed to stick out. What's wrong with having a shape.

I think every woman has felt insecure about her body at one point in time. Myself included. I've worried about weight because my mom is VERY overweight. I can't eat at places like McDonalds without putting on some major weight. Not only that, our family has heart disease on both sides. So it's not just about being 'skinny', it's also about being healthy.

And being five foot eight and 100 pounds is not healthy.

Who cares what the media portrays as sexy? If they showed 250 lb bodybuilders on the covers of GQ magazine, I'm not going to start taking steroids all of a sudden. I think blaming the media is an easy cop-out. The real problem lies in people's insecurity with themselves.

I think that's a bith rash, Neo. Most women don't think that the media influences them. You probably don't think advertising influences what shaver you buy, etc. But it does. I can guarantee you that you personally have bought an item simply because it was advertised, when a generic equivalent would have been just as good.
Even drifting past a billboard without really looking still influences what product you're more likely to buy. Unless you make a conscious effort, of course.
Humans evaluate themselves based on what surrounds them. This is not only researched, but it should be evident if you think about it.

Women are shown thousands of retouched pictures of underweight models. three-quarters of female characters in comedies are underweight. Only 1 in 20 is above average weight, and those characters are often portrayed negatively. Three-quarters of womens' magazine covers feature some kind of programme or plan for changing their bodies. Magazines that try to use full-size models in their fashion pages are praised by their readers-- but criticised by their advertisers, who after all are the main income of the magazine and thus wield power over what is in the magazine.

And even if the viewers aren't overweight at all, it's not surprising that they'll eventually start thinking "well, i'm ok, but I could stand to loose a few pounds".
It's also been shown that diets simply don't work. Yet the vast majority of women have tried it. You'd think that something that doesn't work would fade because people don't buy it anymore. But no, they try, try, try, try and try again, creating an estimated $100 billion a year industry. hmmm.. why do you suppose that is? How do you explain that a product with no value keeps selling?
oh, and how do you explain the steady increase in eating disorders?
Research indicates that exposure to images of thin, young, air-brushed female bodies is linked to depression, loss of self-esteem and the development of unhealthy eating habits in women and girls.
Frankly, how anybody can at this point doubt the media's, advertisers, 'beauty' industry's, etc, complete blameworthiness for women's decline in self-esteem and increase in distorted self image is beyond me.

edit:oh, and as for your comment, I doubt GQ magazine would be enough.
Think about it, homer simpson is fat, marge is thin. This is repeated in many shows. Everybody Loves Raymond. George from Seinfeld, etc.
But if the vast majority of famous men, men idolised in adverts, in comedies and tv shows, etc, were 250 lb bodybuilders, and all magazines were filled with tips on body building, book shelves full of famous new body building guide books, etc...
you WOULD eventually start thinking, well, maybe I should put on some more muscles. Even if you are already healthy and fit, unless you made a very strong conscious effort to ignore it, you would start thinking less of yourself.
of course you wouldn't start taking steroids. not all women become anorexic, after all. Just an increasing minority.

You SHOULD be happy. It's part of what makes you, YOU. The girl I married is a 34A, on a 5'10" (176cm) frame. Being a "skinny broad with no boobs" hasn't kept her from making love (and enjoying it! ), having kids, or nursing them. When she's braless (most of the time) I think she's awesome to look at - and oh-so-easy to give her an affectionate caress (when the kids aren't looking, of course). When she was pregnant, or nursing, she had nice "big ones" which I also enjoyed. The point is, it's HER - not her bust - that I married.

Tiay, I read your post. Basically you agreed with me although your lengthy response would imply the opposite. I never said the media isn't contributing to the problem. Fast food restaurants contribute to obesity, but you can't blame McDonalds and Burger King for making people fat. Tobacco companies contribute to lung cancer, but you can't blame them for making people smoke. Likewise, you can't blame the media for women's poor self-image. The real problem lies in these women's pre-existing insecurity with themselves.

To address your last paragraph, nothing will change how I want to look. I have in mind what I consider the ideal male physique and will achieve my goal. I've already been told by girls I'm too big. However, I don't care what they say.

Your porportions really arn't that bad. I had alittle bit of a differnt image in my mind before I saw the photos. You don't have anything to worry about except for maybe some back problems in the futer but you have a very nice body.
How old are your friends...they sound young or somthing.

I am a C cup myself and Im just fine with my boobs. My mom always had very LARGE breasts. I'm glad I didn't take after that side of the family, mainly cuz Im talking large...like E's. Plus shes dealt with ordering special bra's and then breast cancer and all that. Not fun. I just got the big hips and pear shape from my dads side.

My friend however has DD breasts and she feels self conscious sometimes. They really are out of proportion with her body. But, its how she is and shes in no rush to go under the knife. Shes learned to be ok with them and Her bf LOVES them and thats really all that matters.

Cherriblossom, I saw your pics on the first page and I have to say that your friends are rude to say shit like that. I see nothing wrong with how you look. In fact, if you got em, flaunt em! My other friend is a 36 D and looks basically the same and she has never had any problems/complaints. And, the cool thing about it is that they are REAL! Women who get super large breasts that are fake, well that looks gross.
Appreciate the good times and learn from the bad times....

Hello wake up and smell the roses honey! If I had a body like yours I'd be showing it off. Now I dont' mean posing nude, but in a sensual way. I'm a 35 yr old woman and your boobs are just fine. My husband said the same they're great looking pair. I think you have a low self esteem and need some small talking to, a new makeover, and there you go. If you need someone to talk to, please email me back. Jaja
