Am I the only one that thinks this is ok?

My dad and step-mother finally married after 7 years of dating. During the 3rd year of them dating, I met my step-mother's niece. We hit it off really well and stayed in communication. Now that my dad is remarried, does that eliminate the opportunity for me to have a relationship with my "step-cousin".

I find it insane that some people find this weird, but my two best friends are both turned off by this idea.

Yes, she is your cousin by marriage now, so that would be a little hard for people to understand. How old are you?

I don't think it's that wrong, you're not related by blood. Depends on what you think is right, I guess. Some people may think it's weird some may not.

but i would imagine that later in life, if you do marry this girl, that you'll have to explain to people how you guys are not related by blood everytime you meet anyone.

would you give up the chance to be with your perfect match, just because others would not understand. i know that my family and friends would support it and i dont think it would come up unless we brought it up.

Do what you feel is right.....in my opinion there is nothing that's standing in your way. The only thing that is frowned upon is inbred offspring, which in this case is neither here nor there. So go for it if it feels right.

You started being with her before you knew she would be related by marriage, so you didn't have intentions of dating a "cousin". If your relationship is going very well with her and you feel she is a great match for you, then you should not sacrifice a great relationship just because it may be a little weird.

thank you everybody for confirming what i was thinking. i have no doubts that this thing will work, and i'll keep you updated if anything progresses. i forgot to mention that she is out of state, and i will be moving up there this summer for an internship.

It would definitely be a little weird if it were your step-sister. But step-cousin? I don't think so. I think she's fair game.

It would make a fine Jerry Springer episode, though...
