America, the new Rome?

Ok guys, the whole "foreign policy" that's in place has been bothering me for quite some time. For the last 2 hours I have been reading some articles out there, and now I feel sick.

What are your guys feelings about the war in Iraq? I had never supported the war. Why the heck are we still there? To establish a middle eastern military base? Oil? economic stronghold?

In 01, Rice and Powell declared that iraq had no WMD and oppossed NO threat. ( http://www.thememoryhole.org/war/powell-no-wmd.htm ) Then, how so, did Iraq become this threat after 9/11? Was it because they were "harboring terrorists?" or all the sudden, they acquired these WMDs?

Was invading iraq a plan that was laid out well before 9/11? is this war intended to mark the official emmergence of the United States as a full-fledged global empire?

I feel attacks are going to continue from terroists, therefore giving us the necessary reason to attack/invade other nations. Where does this end?

So far over 22,000 civilians in iraq have died.

Yeah man I always wonder that too... how far will it go... how long before people get sick of us trying to be the world's police. How long before another big war errupts...

Like that dude's sig here on the forums, the quote from Plato: "Only the Dead have seen the end of war."

You been spending too much time with that Chavez guy over in Venezuela?

I for one am glad we're there and I'm happy to see these people freed from a tyrannical leader. It's people like you that will give the terrorists their victory. There w as a time when Americans had guts, that time has passed.

The problem with American government is that its administrators mistake capitalism as a form of governing.

It's about oil and if anyone believes it's about WMD or "freeing the people of Iraq", I think they're mistaken. It's oil and Haliburton (Cheney's old company, of which he is still receiving paychecks).

It also has to do, IMO, which getting the guy who tried to kill George W's daddy. George 41 couldn't kill back then, so now it's up to W to do it.

W. is from Texas, as are all his big dollar buddies that got him elected. Texas is oil companies. These companies are getting no bid contracts, and seeing there stock rise 3 fold (I trade oil company and oil service companies for a living). Their earnings are never down and won't be until W. is out of office.

Obviously the war is not about freeing the people of Iraq. We (as a nation) don't care about the people of Iraq. If we did, we would have taken Sadaam out of power the FIRST time we were there. It's all about oil. Don't even get me started on us allowing another Sharia-based government to be established.

And yes, I am still horrified that Bush was re-elected. What the hell were people thinking about?

We free them from a tyrannical leader.

And put them in the hands of a tyrannical democracy.

You can't really believe we helped these people by killing them, whether it was accidental or not.

Democracy cannot be forced upon people.

EDIT: Y'know I always wondered when America will fall.

agreed

This topic makes me angry beyond belief everytime it's brought up, the people who voted for him make me sick, it's really not hard to see past his BS...and now the people are complaining...well you should have listened the first time.

This whole thing has been nothing but a mess, and what does America or Iraq have to show for it...nothing. Our economy isn't that great, and iraq has had nothing but termoil and death. All the while, we screw up our foriegn policy. Should took hints long ago when our allies started backing out, there is absolutly no point.
His whole war on terriorism is nothing about a ploy to cover the real truth...

Would you be pissed off if some ******* came over and decided to break into you house and raise your kids?

Why dont you go ask the Iraqi population if they are happy? Do you think they are happy that 22,000 of their loved ones are dead? Its people like you who give this shitty president the support he needs to do something like this.

Why dont we ever take into consideration the innocent that we kill? Are the innocent that have perished in Iraq justified with the people killed on 9/11. American or Iraqi, we are all freaking human beings.

We make ourselves out to be such a victim, but the truth is WE'RE NOT.

------ god, i couldnt get on the board to post this for the last hour!!!
