    Working on a new piece.

Working on a clock tower. Only modeling the exterior, so interior aesthetics aren't really particular, other than the usual "Why would THAT be there?" type of deal. Today's my first real hardcore day of modeling, with lots more to go. Comments? Suggestions?

What am I looking at? I mean, whatta ya modelling this for? What's the final structure's intended setting, additional functions or uses, etc.?

As it is, strikes me as somewhat Bauhaus with a Gothic nod to Sci-Fi. Minimalist character of the portico tends to distract my eye from the rhythms of the flying buttresses and tower. Don't know which I'd prefer to see: Devolution of the of structurally unnecessary buttresses, or further elaboration of the portico. FWIW.

The concept is for style and setting based on the film "Limony Snickets: A series of unfortunate events". The idea is to model and texture a victorian-esque style clock tower that sits in a park. Most of my research indicates that I need a lot more angled roofs, but my teacher wants me to see if I can pull of something with a more flat look to it. Maybe I will work with some variations of both...

P.S. Most of the really fine detail is not needed to be modeled. I can texture map most of that. Not only that, but the final city will be loaded into the Unreal Engine, so polycount is being watch a bit.

How about pulling out the buttress stancions so the buttresses run the full length of the roof? That'd flatten it some visually. Although, that'd cause you to end with an elevation that'd look like some of space-dart vehicle...or an arrowhead.

    I like it.

Though the pillars aren't true to Victorian..if Victorian is, indeed, a requirement.

    Ok, new update.

Ditched the pillars and went more with what will likely be stone and wood banisters. Fixed the roofs a bit. Raised the tower, ditched the buttresses....you can tell the rest. Still a lot of detail work to go!

Noticeably less new-age. Will it be brick? And the roof, what kind of roofing material are you envisioning?
